Princ Mahidol Hall, Bangkok, Thailand

Prince Mahidol Hall is a masterful blend of cultural heritage and contemporary design.  Its elegant curved roof is particularly prominent in most Thai architecture, while the ribbed look is inspired by natural elements such as the ribbed shape of some vegetation or the ribs of a human skeleton.  The Prince Mahidol Hall, conceived as a world-class theater with 2,000 seats, is located at Mahidol University on the Salaia campus in Bangkok, Thailand. The hall covers about 35,000 square meters, and it was completed in 2014. The hall space is acoustically designed to mimic the best natural acoustics for an opera or orchestral symphony, as well as to encourage a variety of university activities.

The project

Laying of audio, video and power cables for AV system and complete installation of AV equipment was completed in 8 months, and the building was completed 4 months later. Due to the specific conditions of the project, we have produced several …DIRECTOR’S TABLE… speaker mounts and an adjustable table for the projector, which we are especially proud of.

The hall was inaugurated on 14 April 2014 by Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and a performance by the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.^[2] The hall was also chosen by Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra on its 100th Anniversary World Tour 2014 list.^[3] The architecture concept based on physical structure of human and plant. The roof has two layers in order to cut off a noise from outside, the inner layer covered with a distinctive material, the outer layer covered with copper.^[1]
